Bushy Park’s redevelopment appears to be getting the green light.
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy has revealed that the Chief Town Planner was on board with the $15 million redevelopment plan and has guaranteed that the project would be fast-tracked to meet the May 2014 completion date, on finalization of all the necessary documentation.
Sealy gave the assurance in an interview with the SUNDAY SUN after revealing that the Barbados Tourism Authority had an arrangement in place with the British producers of the Top Gear television programme to stage the first ever Top Gear Festival in this region next year.
“I chaired the meeting between my ministry, the Chief Town Planner and the head of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), and the Town Planner is satisfied that we can facilitate the works at Bushy Park and having that festival,” Sealy said.
“By May next year we can get all the work done and he has assured us once the relevant studies, documents, drawings are submitted, then he’s prepared to fast-track the project.
“I can’t say that all $15 million will be spent between now and when the festival is being held because there are certain things that have to be done, and there are certain things that don’t necessarily need to be done. But we will make sure we will do what we have to do to satisfy the producers of the festival,” he added.
