Boscobel and Blackman and Gollop will do battle today for the championship of the Pine Hill Dairy Primary School’s Netball Competition.
Adrian King, coach of the Boscobel team, believes they are ready to take the title back to St Peter. They were winners in 1989 and 1991.
“In preparation for the games, the girls practise with first formers from other schools and also Division 6 players.
“We also try to practise every day, but some of the girls play for clubs, so when they don’t make practice they are putting in the practice elsewhere. The girls should be ready,” he said.
King added that the team was strongly supported by the parents who have been motivating the players and also taking them to and from late practice sessions.
“We are planning to go out there and give our best . . .,” he said.
Blackman and Gollop coach Calvin Briggs, who is relatively new to the school, already has championships under his wing. When he was the physical education teacher at St Mary’s, the school took the championship in 2007, 2008 and 2010. In 2006, they placed third and in 2009, second.
“My girls are pretty happy that they’ve come this far, contented, seeing that everything with us is new,” he said. “This is only our second year in the competition, so we are already feeling like champs to be in the finals.
“I wouldn’t say I am extra confident because I have won so many championships, but I’m pretty sure the girls will make me prouder than I already am of them.
“I’ve come here, done what I can and it’s up to the girls to execute on the courts tomorrow [today],” Briggs said.
The third-place match will feature Aileen Jeffers Rally winners Belmont and St Martin’s Mangrove.
Matches get under way at 1 p.m. at the Netball Stadium.
