For the last two years, Colton Walrond has manned the entrance to the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court.
He was summoned yesterday by Magistrate Christopher Birch – not for any criminal offence, but rather to thank the guard for going “beyond the call of duty” and to offer him a token of appreciation.
“I want to formally thank you for your loyalty and hard work in keeping us safe under trying circumstances sometimes,” the magistrate said. “I could not let you leave without openly recognizing your efforts.
Walrond, an acting senior security guard, has been a Government security officer for the past 34 years. He has spent the last two at the St Philip court.
The father of two, who will be reassigned from tomorrow, said he “did not expect this”.
Court prosecutor Sergeant Azel Skeete endorsed the magistrate’s comments and on behalf of all the court staff, adding: “May God go with you in all your endeavours.” (SD)
