HIGH COURT JUDGE Justice Margaret Reifer will next Friday hear arguments about the legality of a letter by which the Police Service Commission sent Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin on forced retirement three weeks ago.
The matter came up for hearing yesterday in chambers but was adjourned after one of two senior attorneys representing the commission reportedly told the court he had only recently been retained and needed more time to study the court papers filed by the Commissioner of Police.
Dottin, who is being represented by Queen’s Counsel Elliott Mottley and Leslie Haynes, has charged, among other things, that the letter which sent him on leave was flawed and unconstitutional.
The judicial proceedings have been brought against the Commission and the Governor-General. Legal appearances include Solicitor General Jennifer Edwards, QC, and Deputy Solicitor General Donna Brathwaite, QC, for the Governor General, along with Pat Cheltenham, QC, and Hal Gollop, QC, who are representing the commission.
