‘Lack of certainty’

CONFIDENCE IS KEY to Barbados solving its serious financial problems, said president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Lalu Vaswani yesterday.
And he advised Government to move immediately “to stem the probable loss of investor confidence” as he proposed a five-point plan that would, if implemented, boost this island’s business attractiveness as well as to provide funds to propel economic growth.
“There is not a lack of funds, there is a lack of certainty,” said Vaswani.
“Unless we focus on the solutions, the currency of confidence will lose value at an accelerated pace.”
He was commenting on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s revelation at last Thursday’s Public/Private Sector Consultation that Barbados has to make a $400 million adjustment to the deficit. And though he did not give details, Stuart said “sacrifices” would be necessary and intimated that time was running out.
