Mottley: How will Govt cut?

How will Government cut money paid to public servants without sending some of them home?
That is the question Barbados Labour Party leader Mia Mottley is posing as she attempts to figure out what is meant by proposed measures in a draft document titled Barbados, Growth and Development Strategy, 2013 – 2020.
That document was circulated by Government at the National Consultation exercise at Hilton Barbados last Thursday.
Mottley told a BLP St George South constituency branch meeting on Sunday at the St Luke’s Skills Training Centre that the document says Government will reduce the $870.3 million originally projected in the budget to be spent on wages and salaries to $803.9 million in the current financial year that ends in March 2014, reflecting a $66.4 million cut.
“In other words, that $66.4 million has to be cut from the wages and salaries to central government between now and the end of March [2014]; and between now and the end of March is only eight months – not even a full year,” she said. (GA)
