Sir Roy calls for urgent talks

Sir Roy Trotman wants an urgent meeting with authorities in the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Attorney General to prevent any repetition of the arrest of a customs guard.
Last Friday, police arrested and handcuffed customs guard Owen Moseley at the Grantley Adams International Airport, causing dozens of angry Customs Department workers to converge outside the Oistins Police Station until Moseley’s release around 9:30 p.m.
Sir Roy, the general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), said yesterday that the union was distressed at the incident involving the customs guard “who was carrying out instructions regarding his job that were given by the most senior customs official available at the airport at the time”.
He added while the union was aware that the incident could have led to industrial dislocation at the airport and in the wider public service, the BWU had carefully impressed upon its membership the impact of such industrial action upon the defence of the country. (RJ)
