THE BUSINESS SECTOR activated their emergency plans yesterday in advance of the arrival of an unusually early storm.
While there was no national shutdown, many businesses closed early to allow staff to go home to prepare for Tropical Storm Chantal.
But some 24-hour operations, like gas stations, played it by ear as they kept abreast of weather updates. Carlton Proute, manager of the Esso Service Station in Oistins, told the DAILY NATION: “Our facilities will remain open until there is an official call for a closure.”
He said, however, that the company had taken certain precautions which it would do every hurricane season to protect property and staff. (MM)
