SEVEN PROMINENT DOCTORS – Esther Byer-Suckoo, David Estwick, Beresford “Berry” Connell, Dennis Bailey, Malcolm Grant, Anne Kissoon-Corbin and Kwasi Ametewee – are among 53 who have not renewed their registration as medical practitioners and therefore cannot legally practise medicine in Barbados this year.
Their names appear in the Official Gazette of June 13 which contains the first ever lists of Persons Registered as Medical Practitioners, and Medical Practitioners Registered as Specialists and Their Specialties.
In all, 565 doctors are now legally registered to practise medicine in Barbados. And of that number, 232 have met the criteria to be certified as specialists. Some 583 doctors were on the old register in 2012.
The publication of the lists in the Gazette was required by the new Medical Profession Act, 2011 – 1 to take legal effect.
