AS LONG AS soldiers are in need of care, the Barbados Legion will remain necessary.
Chairman of the legion, retired Lieutenant Colonel Vere Springer, made this declaration yesterday after the legion’s anniversary service at the St Matthias Anglican Church, Christ Church.
He told the DAILY NATION: “We still got guys serving; we have people still alive from World War II and we have guys coming from other wars like in Grenada and Afghanistan and we have people who are in our own [Barbados] Defence Force [in the legion].
“Soldierism will continue and there will be skirmishes everywhere and soldiers will go to these skirmishes and if they get hurt, we have to take care of them, once they are a member.”  (CA)
