With a final training session planned for today, Team Barbados are preparing to leave for the Pan American Junior Championships this weekend in Medellin, Colombia.
Head coach Ramon Armstrong told NATIONSPORT the team had been training every Tuesday and Thursday “for the past couple of weeks” and everything went smoothly.
Armstrong was pleased with the results of a time trial held last Saturday to give the athletes simulated competition.
He reported that all of the field event athletes, except jumper Charles Greaves, were able to compete.
Javelin thrower Janeill Craigg has consistently been recording in excess of 60 metres and Tristan Whitehall was hitting 17 metres in the shot put.
Both of the 400m hurdlers, Kion Joseph and World Youth silver medallist Tia-Adana Belle, also got a run.
“Tia and Kion had good starts and they were fairly aggressive over the hurdles. They maintained their form while finishing and that is something they were trying to work on,” Armstrong said.
Those here will leave tomorrow to join quarter-miler Anderson Devonish and sprinter Levi Cadogan who was part of the Barbados 4×100 metres relay team which set a new national record at the just concluded IAAF World Athletics Championships.
