REPARATIONS?are nothing to fear.
Stressing that no one needed to be afraid of reparations, chairman of the Reparations Task Force, Professor Pedro Welch, told a town hall meeting at the official launch of the task force?at Queen’s Park Steel Shed on Thursday night that in the scriptures, there was a model of reparations.
“As the Israelites walked from Egypt to the promised land, they were told to go and borrow from the Egyptians. That borrowing meant to go and get.
“In the New Testament, when I look at Nicodemus and his response to what he was taught, I see reparations there. I see Zaccheus who, when confronted with the enormity of his crime, said, ‘Half of my goods I bestow to the poor and restore’. So all we are asking for the community to remember is that reparations, to use a Bajan term, is we business,” he said to thunderous applause.
