The busy period for tourism is in eight weeks, and business owners in St Lawrence Gap are worried.
Harassment against tourists and staff of businesses remains their number one concern. The situation has reached a stage where the owners fear the time is fast approaching when tourists will stop visiting the island, and staff will leave en masse for safer conditions on the West Coast.
Close to 20 met with newly appointed tourism liaison officer Inspector Margaret Stephens, of the Royal?Barbados Police Force, four other senior officers and crime prevention officer Station Sergeant Stephen Griffith at Ocean 2 yesterday, and after nearly two hours they were no closer to finding solutions to their mounting concerns.
Some concluded that they would have to take on the responsibility of providing more lights and policing The Gap.
