Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s decision to engage students of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus in dialogue with regard to the controversial decision on payment of tuition fees has been welcomed by principal Sir Hilary Beckles.
“The PM in this regard is quite right and quite perceptive and the posture he has adopted is quite visionary,” Sir Hilary told the MIDWEEK?NATION.
He charged the university had been left out of the original discussions about the imposition of fees in this year’s Budget by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler.
“If a new policy is going to be laid out, the people who are going to implement that policy and the people who are going to be subject to that policy should be party to the conversation. We were not,” the principal said.
