A?LEADING local builder is optimistic that the construction industry will get better over the coming months.
Chairman of the Jada Group of companies, Bjorn Bjerkhamn, said although the building industry continued to be sluggish, he expected to see some significant improvements within a matter of months when a number of projects were started or revived.
He made the comments to reporters following the launch of the Jada One Idea community development project competition at the Port St Charles Marina in St Peter yesterday.
“The construction industry is slower now than it has been in a long time,” said Bjerkhamn. “But we are aware of some projects that are coming down the road which will create employment . . . . They are still in the formation stage. What I can tell you is that there is hope coming down the road.”
He declined to give details on these imminent projects.
Referring to investment in the real estate development here, Bjerkhamn said: “Within the last few months there has been an upsurge. We are not experiencing what it was five years ago in all honesty [and] I don’t know how long it will take to get back there, or if ever. However, we are experiencing right now a lot more action than we were previously.”
