Look out?for the wow factor from Hoskyn “Biscuits”?Worrell at tomorrow night’s battle of the titans muscle war at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
In what is likely to be the most riveting Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic to-date, Worrell says he is bringing more beef while retaining the quality muscle detail for what should be an enthralling duel with Barbados champion Stevenson Belle and Trinidad and?Tobago’s Richard Noel for the first prize cheque of $4 000.
Worrell says he is stepping on stage with 177 pounds of muscle, bigger and fuller than usual.
“I?have packed on some size. I am full and hard and ready for Belle and the rest. I don’t know how Belle beat me in Trinidad and at the Nationals, but it shouldn’t happen again.
“If the judges do the right thing, I should win. I am in shape. I have nailed down my condition. I?am at 180 [pounds], but by the time I dry out more, I will be about 177 and ready. The size is good and I am in good condition,” Worrell told WEEKEND?SPORT.
Worrell, 48, completed his intense training on Wednesday morning at the Fitness Zone Gym in Hastings, Christ Church.
The 2008 Mr Barbados winner said he was sharper than Belle at last month’s Central American And Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Santo Domingo, but was outgunned in the size department.
“I was much sharper than Belle in Santo Domingo but I guess for the overall, the judges only had eyes for the heavyweight and light heavyweight because of the size factor. I?have brought more size for this weekend’s show and hopefully, the tables will be turned,” he said.
The Classic will not all be about Worrell, Noel and Belle. Last year’s Mr Barbados, Ramon Broomes, is stepping on stage for the first time this season and is hoping to spring an upset.
If he has improved his traps and upper chest, Broomes will be a force to be reckoned with.
Organizer of the event, Roger Boyce, told WEEKEND SPORT, he was giving last year’s Mr Bridgetown winner, Dorell Coulthrust, the chance to flex muscle in the Classic. The 42-year-old personal trainer from Shermans, St Peter, will bring width, thickness and an impressive torso. It is left to be seen whether he has the overall package to challenge the favourites.
The buzz is clearly the guest posing exhibition to be given by world-class pro Shawn “The Flexatron”?Rhoden, the fourth-placed finisher at this year’s Mr Olympia in Las Vegas. The majestic Jamaican has one of the most pleasing physiques in the sport and what’s more, is a graceful poser.
It is bound to be a treat and according to Boyce, will be worth every penny.
“Shawn is one of the best. I am excited to have him here and no one should miss this show. It should be special.”
Rhoden, 38, won four pro contests last season, highlighted by a bronze medal at the Mr O.
The programme will also feature bikini, figure competition and men’s physique, which has become the latest craze in the sport.
Boyce has also decided to extend the qualifiers from the open contest to four, who will now be able to compete in the Classic.
The open contest which precedes the invitational Classic, will feature two-time Mr Teenager, Dario Bryan, reigning Mr Bridgetown Joseph “Runt”?Bourne, former Mr Bridgetown winners Therold Babb and Laron Gibson, and CAC lightweight champion Samuel Eastmond.
