An intervention by the Ministry of Education yesterday saved nearly three dozens students of the Daryll Jordan Secondary School from immediate suspension.
However, the reprieve for some of the 32 students of the Trents, St Lucy School may be short-lived.
Sources close to the events as they unfolded in the afternoon at the ministry’s Elsie Payne Complex on Constitution Road explained that the students, who turned up at school just short of 10 a.m., were immediately suspended by principal Stephen Jackman and they quickly made their way through “the pouring rain” all the way to The City to complain to education officials.
In addition to meeting the students in one of the ministry’s conference rooms, SATURDAY SUN investigations revealed, staff of the ministry “took a humanitarian approach” and assisted a number of students in drying their clothing.
It is understood that the uniforms of at least six students, including one asthmatic, were “ironed” by office staff at the ministry to ease the discomfort of going back onto the street in wet clothing. (AH)
