KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Singer Adidja Palmer, known in the entertainment industry as Vybz Kartel, will return to the Home Circuit Court today when jury selection is expected to be completed in his murder trial.
Kartel and his five co-accused have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, who the prosecution said had been killed at the home of the entertainer on August 18, 2011. His body has never been found.
Nine of the 12 jurors were selected yesterday when the case was called. The other accused are entertainer Shawn Campbell, popularly known as “Shawn Storm”, fashion designer Calvin Haye, André St John, Shane Williams and Kahira Jones.
The police allege that Williams was killed after he and another man, who is the prosecution’s main witness, were taken to Kartel’s home to account for a lost firearm. Police said that they have in their possession video and audio recordings linking all the accused to the murder.
In July, Supreme Court judge Bryan Sykes instructed the 12-member jury to return the verdicts of not guilty in the trial of Kartel and two other men charged with the July 12, 2011 shooting death of businessman Barrington “Bossie” Bryan.
The judge made the ruling after ruling that the statements of two witnesses were deemed inadmissible.
