Complaining?about his treatment at Dodds Prisons, accused drug trafficker Sean Gaskin surprised the High Court last week by announcing that he was abandoning all of his appeals against extradition to the United States.
That means that Gaskin, who along with co-accused Shane Hawkesworth and John Scantlebury had been rigorously fighting for the past nine years against being extradited, could be touching down on United States soil in about 15 days.
It is understood that Gaskin, who grew up in the United States after leaving Barbados when he was two years old, but was eventually deported after many run-ins with the law, vociferously complained about the treatment and conditions at Dodds, particularly in maximum security where he was being held for more than two years.
He made the announcement when the constitutional motion against the extradition order came up for hearing before Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson.
Only last month Sir Marston ordered that the men be removed from maximum security.
When contacted, attorney at law Ralph Thorne, QC, who is representing Gaskin and Hawkesworth, said Gaskin refused to budge from his decision.
