Violence seems to be the only way to resolve problems in Barbadian society, lamented Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and two of the island’s major gender-based organizations yesterday.
Brathwaite said reports were showing that more children between the age of ten and 13 were fighting at school, particularly girls.
“This suggests that we have wider issues because if they believe from ten, 11, 12, 13, that early, that violence is the only way to resolve problems, then that is where we need to start,” he said after addressing a symposium on The Proceeds Of Crime at the Supreme Court Complex.
His comments and those of Marilyn Rice-Bowen, president of the National Organization of Women (NOW), and her counterpart Ralph Boyce of the Men’s Educational Support Association (MESA) came after an apparent upsurge in domestic violence, including an alleged murder-suicide on Saturday.
