Buy local first option

Sandals Resorts International is being reminded that with all the food and beverage concessions it is receiving, it is expected to use local produce from farmers as a first option.
At a Press conference at the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) headquarters yesterday, chief executive officer James Paul said it made no sense a country granting such concessions unless all sectors benefited. The benefits, he said, must filter down and any player coming into the industry must recognize that.
However, the BAS was not in favour of other hoteliers being granted similar concessions,
Paul added. He said the BAS had previously called on hoteliers to sit down and see how the two bodies could more effectively work together to source local produce.
“The history has been that they have been unwilling. If they are given the same food and beverage concessions they may not do what we want Sandals to do.
