Principal Matthew Farley has dismissed claims that his Graydon Sealy Secondary School was failing and was being hit by an absenteeism crisis among teachers.
Farley acknowledged?that there had been a high level of sick leave this term but said the matter was under control and was not affecting classroom teaching. He also dismissed an assessment that he had allowed the school to “run into the ground”.
He was responding to at least two unsigned emails circulated to media houses highlighting various issues at the school.
One writer claimed that in any given week, as many as 15 teachers were out sick, leaving students unsupervised in class. In addition, the writer said children were fighting daily and that 150 students had been entered for a mathematics exam but only eight had passed. The writer called on the Ministry of Education to investigate the former Garrison Secondary.
