A men’s group was scolded yesterday for its attitude toward domestic violence as women took to the streets to push for action against gender crimes.
The National Organization of Women (NOW)?organized a motorcade and rally to dramatize national concern about domestic violence.
Leading the attack was Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and executive member of the Inter American Commission on Women. She described statements coming out of the Men’s Educational Support Association as misogynistic and divisive.
Sandiford-Garner underscored the important role the men’s organization played in responding to issues of violence. She said, however, that comments such as “women provoke men and women are spending the man’s money” only trivialized the issue. (LK)
