Surinamese man remanded

A SURINAMESE national will spend Christmas on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds after pleading guilty to four drug offences yesterday, including the importation of more than 950 Ecstasy tablets.
Thirty-two-year-old Steven Riedwald pleaded guilty to possession of ecstasy, intent to supply, handling and importation and was fined $46 000 when he appeared in District B Magistrate Court.
He will be remanded until January 16 or spend three years in prison if he is unable to pay the fine.
Riedwald was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on December 12 after he arrived in Barbados from Trinidad and Tobago.
He passed 81 packages containing 972 Ecstasy tablets, weighting approximately half a kilogram. (PR)
