More aid for St Vincent

THE OUTPOURING OF love and support for St Vincent continues as the island struggles to recover from severe flooding and landslides last week.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Barbados is doing its part, sending food, water, clothing, toiletries and first aid items to the St Vincent Red Cross via the Barbados Coast Guard.
President Noel Adams said the effort was a part of the mandate of the 12-year organization but had special meaning given the circumstances.
“One of our aims and objectives is to help our Caribbean brothers and sisters and especially now as it is our homeland that has been affected,” he said.
St Vincent’s infrastructure is in rough shape, with hundreds of millions of Eastern Caribbean dollars of damage to roads, houses and bridges. In addition, more than 30 houses had been destroyed and a further 125 had suffered “significant” damage, leaving 300 people in shelters and more than 500 homeless.
As for the death toll, it last stood at nine people with three more reported missing.
The association collected the items yesterday at the Clement Payne Centre in Crumpton Street, The City, placing them into barrels before heading to the Coast Guard headquarters.
Adams thanked the Government and people of Barbados for all their support, adding anyone interested in donating further could contact him at 228-7801/259-8961 or senior member Hallie Moor at 258-1559.
