RUSSELL MOSELEY more than made sure he held up his end of the bargain.
Tennis’ best rivalry has been renewed again after the second seeded Moseley whipped Bernard Frost 6-2, 6-1 to set up yet another epic clash against Seanon Williams in tonight’s Men’s Open semi-finals of the CIBC FirstCaribbean Tennis Championships at the Ocean View Courts.
It will be the latest in a long line of head-to-head match-ups featuring the two Davis Cup teammates, who faced off in four off the last five national title games including this year’s lopsided win for Williams.
But Moseley should be entering the much-awaited showdown in some form after dropping just three games in his run to the semis while Williams looked a bit out of sorts in his quarter-final fixture against Davis Cup hopeful Richard Hornby.
Frost did manage to put up some form of resistance though, getting the first games off Moseley all tournament long but the seasoned veteran just couldn’t withstand his younger counterpart’s onslaught in what was basically a repeat of last season’s national final.
On the other side of the draw, no.4 Andrew Thornton was slated to play Hornby’s younger brother Adam last night for the right to play top-ranked pro Darian King in today’s other semi-final scheduled for 4 p.m.
King and Williams also advanced to the latter rounds of the doubles draw after teaming up to thrash Emile Trotman and Simon Lewis 6-1, 6-0 in yesterday’s opening round match.
Their Davis Cup teammate Haydn Lewis wasn’t so fortunate though, as he and Andrew Symmonds fell to the Hornby brothers in a 6-3, 7-5 defeat. (JM
