If you were sick and have not received your National Insurance Scheme (NIS) benefit as yet, you are not alone.
There is a backlog of sickness benefit claims due to a computer software glitch that is also affecting other NIS short-term benefits such as funeral grants and employment injury payments.
According to an NIS source, the problem lies in the data imaging record system. He explained that when claims come in, they are sent to be scanned. However, the scanned images have not been appearing in the staffers’ inboxes, so they cannot process the data. The information technology department is working to resolve the problem.
The source indicated that this problem started flaring up at the end of September and the situation had occurred intermittently since then. (SP)
