MAKE THAT TWO OUT of two for Russell Elcock.
Fresh from winning last week’s Sterling circuit, Elcock captured the Barbados Cycling Union’s (BCU) second event of the year, when he defeated I Exchange Team Excel’s Jesse Kelly in a thrilling sprint to the finish during yesterday’s criterium at the Garrison Savannah.
Having led from the halfway mark of the 30-lap event, the 20-year-old WOW Fugen rider had just enough left in the tank to hold off a fast finishing Kelly, edging him by the slimmest of margins on the line.
Darren Matthews, Elcock’s biggest challenger coming into the event, suffered a mechanical failure on the 16th lap and never seriously threatened thereafter, finishing third.
Two good!
