WEST?INDIES’ TOP BATSMAN in his favoured format is making a return to the top of the order.
After being out of action for over two weeks, Chris Gayle has been named in a 15-man squad for the three-match Twenty20 series against England which starts at Kensington Oval on Sunday.
The powerfully built left-hander has been ruled out with back problems since the first T20 of the Ireland series last month, which forced him to miss the recent three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Gayle, 34, is widely regarded as one of the most devastating batsmen in this form of the game, and will add firepower to a West Indies top order that has recently struggled for fluency, and which was below par against minnows, Ireland.
He has scored 1017 runs in 34 matches, at an average of 32.80, inclusive of 10 half centuries and one century. He also has the record for the highest ever T20 score, having bludgeoned an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls while playing in the Indian Premier League last year.
