Union, BAMC still at odds

IT?IS DAY?7 and the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) are still at an impasse concerning the redundancy of 57 workers from Andrews Sugar Factory.
There was still no way forward despite several meetings Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer Suckoo had separately with teams from both sides at the Warrens Office Complex.
Noting that Prime Minister Freundel Stuart was being kept abreast of the situation, Byer Suckoo, emerging from the meeting room just after 10 o’clock last night, seemed to be quietly confident there would be some light at the end of the tunnel.
“Though it may not look as though we are moving fast, we are actually endeavouring to move as fast as we can because we are all aware what is involved here,” she said while admitting that there had been some challenges.
