A brouhaha has been raised over the possible destruction of what has been called the last remaining wooded area on the South Coast.
But management of the all-inclusive hotel, which had been linked to the property, has denied any such intention.
At Dover Woods, near the original site of the first church of Christ Church where original tombs still remain, is a grove of mature almond, casuarina, mahogany and other trees. It was also home to a tribe of monkeys. But no more, said people on the beach.
Since quantity surveyors appeared and bulldozers moved in about three weeks ago and cleared the underbrush, they say all the monkeys have disappeared. The tourists, they claim, have also followed.
In addition, the majority of trees, some hundreds of years old, have been banded with either orange, yellow or pink tape and residents, users of the nearby Dover Beach and others, say workmen have appeared and indicated the trees will be cut to make way for the development of the all-inclusive resort.
