PASSENGERS FLYING ECONOMY class on American Airlines (AA) are now paying for all their checked luggage.
The fee of US$25 for the first bag which went into force from last month caught a number of passengers by surprise at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
If you have a second checked bag, it will cost you US$40 and neither bag must go over 50 pounds or an overweight fee will apply. The fees applied must be paid for both the outward and return segments of the trip.
The new AA regulations went into force from April 8 but brought with it enhancements for passengers in first and business class who are entitled to three checked bags of 70 pounds each. On the other hand, those in coach with more than two bags will now have to pay US$100 for the third piece.
President of The Travel Agents Association of Barbados, Indar Weir, yesterday said Barbadians were not too familiar with the developments, but noted that “people have become accustomed to the airlines doing what they want” and as such he did not anticipate any negative reaction from the public.
