THE POLICE have been cleared of wrongdoing in the 2012 shooting death of 27-year-old civilian Jamar Maynard.
According to Coroner Manila Renee, the officer who shot the 27-year-old Grazettes, St Michael resident did so “lawfully, in the execution of his duties”.
The coroner also said that Maynard, who died from excessive loss of blood, had “substantially contributed to his demise” by the physical exertion of the flight which would have made the injury more serious.
Renee announced her preliminary oral judgment yesterday during a presentation in the Coroner’s Court in Roebuck Street, Bridgetown, which ran for nearly four hours. Her final, written report could be ready by the end of June.
