A former Prime Minister has hinted that the best path to Barbados’ economic success and the building of a just society, is to use the experience gained by those who have been tried and tested, as he has been.
Detailing his own experience since coming to public life in 1962, Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford hinted that Barbados’ public policies and economic strategy could benefit from his advice, but only if the Government wanted it.
“My advice that I will give is for the Government; when it wants it, if they want it. The Government has all the advice that it wants and the Government is seeking to deal with the situation as best it can,” he told the audience at Friday’s Democratic Labour Party (DLP)?lecture at the George Street Auditorium, Belleville, St Michael.
He said therefore that policymakers should “beat upon the heated anvil of public policy with the hammer of experience” since there were few things in life more valuable than relevant experience. (RJ)
