THE LOCAL MOVIE HUSH will be adapted for the stage as part of a musical production entitled Glorious.
The three-day presentation of Praise Academy of Dance Barbados and Karar Arts Dance Conference, slated to start next month, will use music, drama and dance to examine the issues affecting young men, teenage pregnancy and sexual abuse as explored in the movie.
Speaking at a Press conference at First Baptist Church, Constitution Road, to launch Hush On Stage on Friday, Marcia Weekes, its director and chief executive officer of Praise Academy, said the show dealt with issues that people did not talk about publicly.
She said the staging presented an opportunity for schools and church groups to use it as a platform for discussion.
Paul Leacock, pastor of First Baptist Church, praised the academy for communicating in a realistic way the issues in Barbados – topics that it was not always possible for the church to deal with.
“There needs to be support for ministries like Praise Academy that function outside the box; that is able to take on issues that we may not always have the skills, the resources or the means of expression [to deal with],” he said.
Over 40 dancers including Amanda Standard and the Divine Dance Institute, Robert Evans and the Dance Ministry Institute from the United States will be featured.
Weekes said Glorious would feature a children’s matinée where Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs would be produced from a biblical perspective.
Glorious will be held at The Plantation on July 4, 5, 6.
