A consortium is being established to help regenerate one of Bridgetown’s historic streetscapes.
Sir Trevor Carmichael, the president of the Barbados Museum and Historial Society, said the consortium for Roebuck Street was “very much in the embryonic stages”. But he added that it would look at re-employing displaced Government workers, championing the reopening of the Globe Cinema and leading the way in the regeneration of Roebuck Street.
He was the featured speaker at the Barbados National Trust’s annual general meeting held recently at its Wildey House headquarters.
“A Roebuck Street consortium will be best suited to bring together Government, property owners and interested parties to agree on a strategy of regeneration with the purpose of improving Roebuck Street facades, purchasing or beautifying open spaces and, ultimately, creating a street experience – possibly even a weekend pedestrianised street – capable of attracting moviemaking and recreational enjoyment,” he told his audience.
