“ELECTION” TEAMS IN St Peter have been mobilised and former Prime Minister Owen Arthur has given the “marching orders”.
Arthur summoned a select group to his Church Street, St Peter office yesterday evening to hit the ground in every district like they do for a general election to work on a matter he insists will hurt people, and especially the poor.
Former president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Colin Jordan, has been tasked with coordinating a steering group to help people deal with the newly introduced solid waste tax, which is due on July 28. Defaulters will have to pay penalties and interest will accrue.
Arthur, who was referred to during the meeting as “Boss”, “Prime Minister” or simply Owen, described the tax as “most unusual” because, unlike other taxes, there were no exemptions and everyone must pay.
