It is not all gloom and doom for the country’s small hotels.
In fact, immediate past chairman of the Intimate Hotels of Barbados (IHB), Renee Coppin, believes that their thrust towards sports tourism will redound to the benefit of their members.
Delivering her report Wednesday morning at the annual general meeting of the group, she said the secretariat had been working hard on building and maintaining partnerships, both with individuals and associations.
“At the level of the IHB, Gayle and I have trekking the across the island, and beyond, trying to position our members as the premier choice for sporting groups – teams and spectators. We have developed relationships with the Students Association of the University of the West Indies, the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, the Olympic Association, the Barbados Volleyball Association, the Barbados Rugby Football Union, the Barbados Football Association, the Barbados Netball Association and the Barbados Judo Association.
