AS GOVERNMENT CONTINUES its quest for funding for the multimillion-dollar Sugar Point Cruise Terminal project, two barges that had been sitting at the Bridgetown Port in anticipation of commencing work have been temporarily pulled from Barbados.

Chairman of the Barbados Port Inc., David Harding, told the SUNDAY SUN the barges were sent by the owning company, Weekes Marine of Houston, to do “a small job” in Colombia. That job should take about two months, after which the barges will return to Barbados.

Harding explained they were originally here “because of a soft mobilisation”.

“They put them here so that if we had pulled the trigger on the project (the barges would already be in Barbados), but while they are still waiting on us they got a small job to do in Colombia,” said Harding.
