A man believed to be in his early 60s was last night being questioned by police in connection with an alleged car racket worth several million dollars, speculation about which has been swirling across Barbados for the past three weeks.

Police confirmed they had the St Michael businessman in custody but refused to give any further details.

“He is being interviewed by detectives,” was what one source close to the investigations told the DAILY NATION yesterday.

The latest development follows weeks of speculation that a high-profile car rental firm was at the centre of a probe involving a number of car dealers and finance companies.

Earlier this month, confirmed reports indicated that over 100 vehicles had been repossessed at one time, including luxury models like Range Rovers and Mercedes Benzes.
