Quaity care for some of the 207 patients at private senior citizens homes could be under threat due to the non-payment of fees over the last two months.
Seniors living in the 31 homes which are subsidised by Government under the alternative care programme could see a reduction in the quality of food as well as the number of meals they get each day, because of this development.
It could also lead to fewer diapers being used daily per patient, and result in reduced hours for workers at those homes which are severely affected.
It could even lead to some cases of abuse where some workers may take out their frustration on the seniors.
These views came yesterday from two owners of homes who said their last payment from the Ministry of Health was in September, and that was for August. They are now owed for September and October.
One owner explained that her monthly expenses totalled about $24 000 – $12 000 for salaries, $3 000 for food, $5 000 in rent. and utilities, $3 000.
