Alleynedale residents battle water

Residents of Alleynedale, St Lucy had to battle rising waters as heavy rain fell across Barbados today.

Motorists in the area also had to exercise caution as the surface of the road was completely hidden by the water.

One resident told NATION ONLINE he had lived in the area for more than 30 years and this was the worst he had ever seen it, but it was a recurring problem.

The rising water stopped just short of going into his home.

Both he and another resident, Anderson Ward, said the wells in the area needed clearing and the poor drainage also needed fixing.

According to the forecast by the Barbados Meteorological Service, week and unstable conditions will continue to affect the island.

As a result, tonight will be cloudy with some scattered showers, periods of rain and possible isolated thunderstorms.

Small craft operators and sea bathers are also advised to exercise caution. (SAT)
