WICB contracts still an issue

THERE HAS BEEN no victimisation, but another issue could be brewing.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday announced a 15-member Test squad for an upcoming tour of South Africa that includes eight players on the recently aborted visit to India.

Amidst speculation last week that West Indies’ three captains could lose their positions, Denesh Ramdin has been retained as skipper of the Test squad which leaves the Caribbean
on November 30.

Reliable sources, however, revealed to the DAILY NATION yesterday that the match tour contracts sent to the players on Tuesday raised concerns stemming from the controversial memorandum of agreement (MOU) and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that upset the cricketers and led to them withdrawing their services in India.

According to the sources, the contentious clause was open-ended and subject to renegotiation, leaving the players uncertain about their remuneration package.
