THE MAN WHO was shot by police last Monday was granted bail when he appeared in court today on several charges.

Thirty-year-old Amando Browne of 7th Avenue, Skeetes Road, The Ivy, St Michael was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply, trafficking, two counts of assault to prevent lawful apprehension and two counts of resisting police officers.

According to police, two officers responded to a report of a man allegedly selling illegal drugs at Browne’s Beach, St Michael on December 1, and attempted to arrest Browne.

Police public relations officer Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch said “during the arrest, Browne armed himself and attacked the police officers who feared for their lives”.

Welch said one officer drew his service firearm and shot Browne in his right arm.

He was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention by police officers.

Both officers also sought medical attention for their injuries.

Browne will return to court on March 20. (PR/NB)
