There’s no official plan to get rid of the Rural Development Commission (RDC) and the Urban Development Commission (UDC).
Minister of Housing Denis Kellman, who has responsibility for the RDC, made this statement yesterday.
“We cannot disappear,” he said of the two agencies.
“They’re providing very good social activities and also good economic activities.”
The comment was in contrast to a claim by highly placed sources in the Ministry of Finance last month that both agencies would be closed as part of Government’s latest strategy to cut spending and close a huge fiscal gap.
Kellman said he was not aware of any Government decision to close the agencies and transfer their portfolio to the National Housing Corporation (NHC) or any decision to merge both commissions. (TY)
