ONE MAN WAS REMANDED and two others granted bail when they appeared in court today on drug charges.

Jeffrey Alleyne pleaded not guilty to possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of 54 pounds of compressed cannabis which was seized on Crane Beach, St Philip, last Sunday.

He was remanded, to reappear at the District C Magistrates Court on January 8 next year.

Anderson Omar Lorde and Dario Layne also pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $25 000 with one surety. They will also return to court on January 8.

Lorde and Layne are to surrender their passports and report to the Oistins Police Station on Tuesdays and Thursdays before 9 a.m. They were also placed on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

According to police, members of the Drug Squad, Police Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard, carried out an operation at sea off the Crane, and one Barbados-registered fishing boat was intercepted with three Barbadian men on board.

A subsequent search of the nearby beach turned up one duffle bag containing the illegal drug. (PR/SAT)
