Former professional player Anicia Wood was the lone new face elected to the Barbados Volleyball Association’s executive when elections were held Tuesday night at the Barbados Olympic Association’s headquarters.
Ironically Wood, who is still a member of the women’s national team, beat out her manager and the previous incumbent Shirley Hoyte-Boyce in the vote for the public relations officer position for the next four-year term.
Wood enjoyed a tremendous 2014 although injury had hampered her court time at the Caribbean Volleyball Championships in Trinidad and Tobago as well as in the Goddard Enterprises Limited League. As coach of Brydens Rockets, Wood helped her team to challenge in the league and then she suited up to help them to capture the knockout crown.
To maintain continuity, the BVA holds staggered elections where elected members of the executive stand for elections every four years.
President John Griffith who has held that position since 1996 was returned unopposed as well as treasurer Wyne Jean-Marie and the longest serving floor member, Andrew Hoyte. Over eighty percent of the member clubs were represented at the meeting.
