The cricketers from St Leonard’s Boys’ had many reasons to smile yesterday as they got an early Christmas gift to end the year on a high.
They convincingly defeated Nicholls Baking Combermere by five wickets with 14.3 overs left to walk away with the 2014/2015 Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Schools’ under-19 40-over championship.
Needing a meagre 122 to win at Desmond Haynes Oval, they made 122 for five from 25.3 overs to repeat as champions. They also won in 1996 and 1997.
They were spurred to victory by a stroke-filled fourth-wicket stand of 65 in 79 balls between left-handers Khalil Herbert and Jamar Ifill. Herbert lashed 37 off 49 balls, including five fours and six, while Ifill made an unbeaten 30 with one four and a six from 33 deliveries.
