Regatta set to break record

NEXT MONTH’S Mount Gay Round Barbados Race Series, which will have boats from as far away as Poland and Germany, could top the 50 mark for the first time.

  Former Senator Peter Gilkes, who is the yachting consultant with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), told the MIDWEEK NATION that the 2015 regatta week will surpass the 49 boats that competed in this year’s event.

 “I am confident that we will break that record. We have already had boats arriving last week and over the weekend. This event is getting bigger and better with crews coming all the way from Poland and it is great from a tourism viewpoint to have participants in early to enjoy what Barbados has to offer.
