Boxing Day to climax season

TOMORROW, the historic Garrison Savannah will be the perfect place to bring the entire family to relax and enjoy the thrill associated with the sport of kings.

The Barbados Turf Club signs off its racing calendar with the staging of the Diamond International/Crown Of Light Boxing Day Raceday card with a set post time of 12:30 p.m.

Patrons will have ten exciting races including three feature events starting with race three – the Boxing Day Juvenile Open Condition Race – for two-year-olds over 1 570 metres.

Luther G. Miller and Suzanne Miller’s Luckylucky Me shoulders the top weight of 125 pounds while seeking the lion’s share of the $38 000 purse; such an achievement will give her four consecutive wins. Her competition, based on weights reversal, should come from Dazzlin David in at 116 pounds and Storm Cat Glory down to take 111 pounds.

The second feature will see the Peter Norrie, Sephen Walcott and Marina Corbin-owned Halle Rose seeking to remain unbeaten while increasing her win tally to four. This may be attained in the $27 600 purse Caribbean Horse Nursery Stakes and Trophy Condition Race for West Indian-bred two-year-olds over 1 100 metres.

Race five – the Diamonds International/Gift Allotted Weight – over 1 570 metres for West Indian-bred maidens is a very interesting and open contest. Hercules, taking 121 pounds, has two second places and will be looking to go one better.

Summer Again, Double Jeopardy, Thismeanswar are all in with live chances while the best options among the fillies rest with Mousetrap and Lady Dancer, who both pack 116 pounds.

As the card goes on it gets even better as race six – Diamonds International Piaget Handicap – for horses rated 95-77 and open to those rated 76 and below over 1 800, is very competitive. George Devere Davis’ Gold Mine returns from injury and has been entrusted to carry 128 pounds.

The Diamonds International/Wonder Stud Handicap, the afternoon’s eighth race which goes over 2 000 metres for horses rated 65-47 and open to horses rated 46 and below, should offer punters good value.

The estate of Sir Robin Buchanan, Geoffrey Cave, Neville Isdell and the Ursula Zindel-Hilti owned Azkaban packs the top impost of 128 pounds. This weight could be a burden but getting the distance doesn’t.
